The Château was built in 1749 on the edge of the village of Aloxe-Corton on the site of an old quarry and has been owned by the Latour family since 1891. It is surrounded by a Clos, French for a walled-in vineyard, which encloses part of the premier cru vineyard of Aloxe-Corton Les Chaillots. Corton Grancey is the ancestral home of the Latour family where visitors have been welcomed for many generations.

Château Corton Grancey is in the north of the village of Aloxe-Corton and is surrounded by a large 18th century walled garden. It was built in 1749 by Gabriel Lebault, the grandfather of the Marquis de Cordoue (who later inherited the Château) and the President of the Burgundian Parliament. Upon his death the Marquis left the property to the Comtes de Grancey who sold it to the third Louis Latour in 1891 at the height of the Phylloxera crisis.

For a long time the Château was the Latour family's summer residence and its situation amongst the vines was the perfect place to observe the development grapes before harvest. Today the Château is owned by Maison Louis Latour and is used to receive guests and for special occasions. Our priority is to preserve the fabric of the building and its heritage for our guests and future generations to enjoy.

Two centuries ago the Château gave its name to a special wine, the Château Corton Grancey Grand Cru; a unique wine that is crafted from several Corton vineyards and gives a unique insight into a single vintage and the domaine. Produced only in vintages where the grapes reach optimal ripeness; the wine is a selection of the best barrels from four named Corton grand cru vineyards: Les Bressandes, Les Perrières, Les Grèves and Le Clos du Roi that are blended by our winemakers. The wine is the signature of our house style and witness to the great vintages of the domaine. This historic wine has transcended eras, for example Voltaire wrote "The older I get, Sir, the more I feel the price of your kindness. Your good wine has become a great necessity to me, I give good Beaujolais wines to my guests in Geneva, but I drink your Corton wine in secret."
